Here's an idea....how's about we combine this with the Ostfront site visit?

Name a date now and I'll get it in the diary!

I'd much rather have a meeting sooner - I need time for prop production as well.

I'll make myself available any evening next week - I'll even drive over to your place!

OK, Tuesday it is. Let's meet in Lichfield which is about half way between the both of us.

Do you know anywhere there? Alternatively just park up and find a decent pub.

I don't mind driving to your place - I find it hard to talk in pubs!

OK, here's what we've come up with so far, let's see what you think:

AM - 10:00-12:30:

US Army Base, Nr Studley Constable, England.

Axis:

Will be dropped in small groups by vehicle (Josh's Ford) at points A, B, C, D and E. (a la CR)

Early objective:

Rally on Liam Devlin (Josh - to keep him out of the game!) and get briefed on what to do.

Main Objectives:

1: Locate drop cylinders, wherever they find one will decide their regen point.

2: Those in Brit Airborne disguise - Recce village area.

3: Those in Axis kit - get to the wooded area and stay undercover/recce village from cover.

Axis must not be discovered while in German kit. Of utmost importance that they remain hidden and evade capture.

Allied:

Most will be stationed in the camp area. Guns will be in armoury and not on persons.

Early objective:

Prepare for a visit from Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Build machine gun positions in strategically useful places!

Main Objectives:

1: On foot or in vehicles - patrol the area to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister

2: Manoeuvre anti-aircraft guns into positions F & G.

3: Take part in training exercises and camp activities. (Target practice, brew up....errrm, any ideas?)

The main point of this portion of the morning game is to allow the German players to move into position and recce the camp (we see this lasting about an hour). We can send Allied players out on short, regular armed recces to keep them active. The idea is that the Germans either get found out because they are crap at hiding, or the undercover Brit Airborne guys make it to the camp. Either way the game will then begin in earnest with and fight through the woods for an hour or so.

German objective will then be to take the camp and capture/kill Churchill.

Allied objective will then be to keep the camp and protect Churchill.

Throughout the morning, Allied patrolling vehicles (Josh's Suzuki) can be used on many of the roads including the tracks in yellow. These could be captured by the Germans, but the main idea would be to go into hiding.

LUNCHTIME!

PM - 13:30-16:00:

Studley Constable, England.

Axis:

Regardless of the morning game, Germans now control the village area.

Main Objectives:

1: Capture/kill Churchill. (Who will be in a vehicle, and will drive randomly around the whole site and up The Street and Cavenham Road)

2: Perform a fighting withdrawal to evacuation point at H.

Allied:

Start from point I which is their Army Base now.

Main Objectives:

1: Protect Churchill from capture.

2: Attack the Germans who have holed up in Studley Constable.

This requires meating out a little of course, but it's a skeleton of a game for now.

Your thoughts please.

Yes ..you spelt "meeting" incorrectly

oh yes the joy of it

On a more serious note I went through it with CW yesterday . The site's restrictive in that most of the middle is unusable , however the game plan looks workable and gives both sides chance to play different games which is good . Add in some potential for vehicle ambushes on Josh's truck and I reckon it will work well .
Top marks for finding a way of not letting Josh get too involved !

Now wheres my denison ?

I AM THE GRAMMAR NAZI!!!

TBH, the site's a pigging nightmare logistically. Very much like Close Action's one with that dead ground in the middle.

However, Dave's idea of sticking Churchill in the middle of the field with an easel and paints ready for capture make me smile!

Suggestions inline.

Call me a bastard, but I reckon they should jump off when its moving ;)

Early objective:

Rally on Liam Devlin (Josh - to keep him out of the game!) and get briefed on what to do.

Main Objectives:

1: Locate drop cylinders, wherever they find one will decide their regen point.

Make one of the drop containers a Medical one (as happened in real life) No bandages till its found?

2: Those in Brit Airborne disguise - Recce village area.

3: Those in Axis kit - get to the wooded area and stay undercover/recce village from cover.

Set up Radio found in one of the drop containers?

Axis must not be discovered while in German kit. Of utmost importance that they remain hidden and evade capture.

Well, they were yanks, so give em a lecture on not picking up VD from the local women or get em out on the range. Give them some target practice

special mission, Intelligence points out that their *might* be a spy - Liam Devlin - who must be captured

Throughout the morning, Allied patrolling vehicles (Josh's Suzuki) can be used on many of the roads including the tracks in yellow. These could be captured by the Germans, but the main idea would be to go into hiding.

could also throw in "recovering items of intelligence" from Devlins house" to keep them on their toes a bit

Allied:

Start from point I which is their Army Base now.

Main Objectives:

1: Protect Churchill from capture.

2: Attack the Germans who have holed up in Studley Constable.

as with the Germans, recovering intelligence material from Devlins house

All in, looks good to me!

All good thoughts Jay, I'd like to include them in the final plan.....Dave, you agree?

I do think it'd be good to have some sub-plots we can throw in if necessary, something to hold one of the sides up if things are moving a bit quickly in one direction.

We will have to decide the trigger point is for Liam being suspected as it will be useful for Liam to do quite a bit of to-ing and fro-ing between both camps.

I'm not sure what we can use as Liam's cottage, give the camp is a US base in the morning and the village in the afternoon.

* edit: we could use one of the disused buildings over towards the safezone building, which I had put down as being out of play for practical reasons *

Guy pointed out it would be nice to make use of some big bangs given that we have the budget for once! He suggested a mortar attack which which is great.

So, start of afternoon play. Germans inhabit village, clearing & woods. Set up mortar in clearing (between woods and village). Spotter takes up position at edge of woods looking down easterly trackway (he will be Guy or Jay as he is also detonator of pyro). Spots US army making way from South East corner of site up the eastern trackway. Calls to mortar team. Mortar team drops charge into mortar, first 25g charge blown (with packed peat filling). Calls for second mortar, fireball charge blown - this time a bit closer to US. Calls for third mortar, 25g debris charge blown, closer still to the US. CW staggers to his feet dripping in blood from shrapnel wound. Calls for medic, game on. From this point all is safe so set-piece is over, US can split up and do what they want from now on.

Safety: K supervises mortars, OU supervises detonation, CW controls forward movement to pre-marked spot (well away from final, closest blast), HS controls bulk of US from pressing forward
Radio contact will be vital for this whole game I feel not least this exercise.

Three blasts should have the effect wow, shit! and then OMFG! and get the US hearts thumping and energy levels up.

Other than the mortar team only the US will get the benefit of this show so I'll think on how we can introduce a finale that the Germans get to see and make the game end on a high...

That sounds good.

I think if you wanted to do a German directed barrage the best point would be towards the end of the game.

The Germans need to retreat to a set point for extraction. We could set a mini objective for the Allies to capture or collect the mortars and use them against the enemy. If they fail we could change the story to say that some arty has been called in from the North Norfolk coast and pointed inland (we could even use Josh's 88's), either that or a Thunderbolt at a local airbase.

As they retreat the arty could hit infront and behind them at fixed points along the southern fence line.

Who would we be using to set-up this stuff?

Incidentally, and probably something for a different thread, what inroads have we made to getting the training with TLFX?
